Subaru Legacy Window Tint Installation Guide

Work through Subaru Legacy installation from front door panes to the remaining door glass, fixed side panes and rear opening. Plan the cargo-area workspace before peeling the rear liner, and keep the heated pane separate from plain side-glass cleanup.

For a Legacy sedan, identify rear-glass antenna traces as well as the defogger before selecting coverage or cleaning tools. A wagon order needs its separate rear-side and gate layout; do not substitute sedan glass just because the year matches.

Prepare Subaru Legacy glass before applying film

The 2013 Legacy/Outback manual prohibits sharp tools and abrasive cleaner on protected rear glass. Its printed-antenna section warns that film over the antenna area can reduce reception. 2013 Subaru Legacy/Outback Owner’s Manual, 3-50; Audio, printed antenna section.

Removing old tint first?

Read our 2013 Subaru Legacy window tint removal guide for removal planning, manufacturer glass-care advice, and replacement-film checks. The guide clearly labels video details that are not verified for the stated model year. Prepare for a Subaru Legacy sides-and-rear tint installation by identifying the exact vehicle and checking the supplied pieces before use.

Sedan and wagon have different listed year ranges

The Legacy sedan entry covers 1995–2013; the wagon entry covers 1990–2007. For example, a 1992 wagon appears in the table while a 1992 sedan does not. Enter your actual year, make, model, body style and trim in the vehicle-description field, or provide your VIN. Keep the actual vehicle details unchanged. If the description or glass configuration is unclear, contact support before ordering. Provide your exact year, body and trim; pattern availability is checked before fulfillment. Request a check for an unlisted or modified configuration.

Use the Subaru Legacy vehicle page to confirm the selection. Keep every liner attached while matching the pieces to the actual panes. If an edge or opening does not match, photograph it and ask for help before cutting or peeling.

Apply the matched pieces and check the edges

Protect the interior from application liquid, finish cleaning the accessible glass edges and follow the installation video and installation sequence. Pre-cut film may still need shaping on curved glass. Follow the supplied curing instructions before operating windows or cleaning fresh film.

For existing film, complete the Subaru Legacy removal checks first. Confirm windshield and roof coverage separately from a sides-and-rear order. Send your vehicle details and photos if a supplied piece or glass feature is uncertain.

Your Subaru Legacy fitting sequence

  1. Match and clean. Lay each piece on its liner, identify its intended pane and check orientation. Remove old film and glue first. Clean accessible glass edges and seals, then protect switches and trim from liquid.
  2. Fit a front rolling window. Lower it enough to reach the top edge. Wet the inside glass and exposed adhesive as the liner separates, position the film and squeegee with overlapping passes. Raise the pane carefully to finish the lower section without folding the film.
  3. Complete the remaining sides. Use the matching rear-door pieces where fitted, then the separate fixed panes. Keep moving gaps, hinges and latches clear; do not trim an unexpected piece merely to make it fit.
  4. Shape and apply the rear piece. Dry-check curved glass with the liner attached. Shape film on the exterior when needed, using controlled heat and keeping it moving; the final adhesive installation goes on the inside. Keep sharp tools away from heater or antenna traces and leave brake-light output unobstructed.
  5. Inspect and cure. Check edges, corners and trapped solution before cleanup. Keep newly tinted windows closed for at least five days and wait at least seven days before cleaning. Cold or humid weather can extend drying; mild moisture haze can take up to three weeks to clear.

If the film bunches on curved glass, review shaping and rear-glass access. For haze, bubbles or lifted edges, use the close-up troubleshooting guide.

Choose a machine-cut MotorPeak tint kit. Estimated 7–10 days total for cutting, processing and shipping. Check your state's finished glass-and-film requirements before selecting shades.
